Basic Banger Gravy

Phatman’s Basic Banger Gravy

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 2 Shallots (or 1 medium onion), finely diced
  • 3 tbsp Gravy Powder (Beef)
  • 400ml Water
  • 1 Sprig of Fresh Thyme

Method:

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat until it starts to foam and sizzle.
  2. Add the shallots and sautรฉ until soft and slightly golden, about 4-5 minutes. This gives your gravy a nice sweet depth.
  3. Stir in the gravy powder and cook for a minute or two, letting it soak up the buttery goodness. This also helps to toast the powder a little, intensifying the flavor.
  4. Gradually pour in the water, whisking constantly to avoid lumps, until everything is smooth and well combined.
  5. Toss in the sprig of thyme and bring the gravy to a gentle simmer. Let it cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency and the thyme has infused its subtle earthy flavor.
  6. Remove the thyme sprig, and give the gravy a taste. Season with extra salt and pepper if needed.
