Basic Banger Gravy
Phatman’s Basic Banger Gravy
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 2 Shallots (or 1 medium onion), finely diced
- 3 tbsp Gravy Powder (Beef)
- 400ml Water
- 1 Sprig of Fresh Thyme
Method:
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat until it starts to foam and sizzle.
- Add the shallots and sautรฉ until soft and slightly golden, about 4-5 minutes. This gives your gravy a nice sweet depth.
- Stir in the gravy powder and cook for a minute or two, letting it soak up the buttery goodness. This also helps to toast the powder a little, intensifying the flavor.
- Gradually pour in the water, whisking constantly to avoid lumps, until everything is smooth and well combined.
- Toss in the sprig of thyme and bring the gravy to a gentle simmer. Let it cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency and the thyme has infused its subtle earthy flavor.
- Remove the thyme sprig, and give the gravy a taste. Season with extra salt and pepper if needed.
