Phatman’s Caramelized Onion Gravy
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 2 Large Onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp Sugar (brown or white, depending on preference)
- 3 tbsp Gravy Powder (Beef)
- 400ml Water
- Salt and Pepper, to taste
Method:
- Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat until it begins to sizzle.
- Add the sliced onions and sautรฉ them, stirring occasionally, until they start to softenโabout 5 minutes.
- Sprinkle the sugar over the onions and reduce the heat to low. Continue cooking for another 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are deeply caramelized and golden brown. The sugar helps them develop that rich, sweet flavor.
- Once the onions are caramelized, stir in the gravy powder and let it cook for a minute, allowing the flavor to infuse with the onions.
- Gradually add the water, whisking continuously to create a smooth, flavorful gravy. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes, thickening to your desired consistency.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste, and give it a final stir before serving.
